I am the proud owner of a home built, on-demand hydrogen generator. I built it for under $65 and with parts found locally. Of course I am all about the safety of myself and my children so I sent this man an email to ask him to validate his claims that the system generated dangerous amounts of carbon monoxide and he wrote back saying that I could “ask any high school chemistry teacher”.

Not exactly the data I was looking for so I did a search on the internet for any scientific studies, warnings from governing bodies or statistics on those harmed or killed using a home built hydrogen generator.

I could not find a single piece of credible data confirming what the seller of a $1000 hydrogen generator had boldly written in his article warning people that home made hydrogen generators using baking soda as a catalyst could kill them.

So, I had mine tested by an independent laboratory. I wrote to a researcher at Gulf laboratories and I contacted the developer of the top selling do it your self guide in the entire world and asked if the claims were true.

My own test revealed no production of carbon monoxide. The researcher at Gulf Labs who has studied and written numerous technical papers on this topic said this person’s statements were laughably ridiculous.

The developer of the best selling guide, who himself has sold thousands of guides and perfected this technology over a 25 year span, said that the person’s article was filled with so many mistakes and untruths that it was merrily unsubstantiated ranting and economically driven.

I decided I would believe the researchers, scientist and independent testing facility over the high school chemistry teacher. I feel the article warning others not to build their own hydrogen generators was nothing more than a pathetic and irresponsible lie to increase his own sales of his expensive hydrogen generator… a generator that works on the same exact principle as one you can build at home and at a fraction of the cost.
